Mechanism
Initially boosts LH/FSH release via GnRH receptor activation (cAMP/PKA and IP3/calcium signaling), but continuous exposure desensitizes and internalizes the receptors, suppressing the pituitary-gonadal axis after an initial 1–2 week hormone flare.
