Lutathera (Lutetium Lu 177 dotatate)
177Lu-DOTA-TATE, Lutetium-177 DOTA-octreotate, 177Lu-DOTA-Tyr3-octreotate
Radiolabeled somatostatin analog (Lutetium Lu 177 dotatate) combining receptor-targeting with radioactive lutetium-177 for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy. FDA-approved in 2018 for somatostatin receptor-positive gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, improving progression-free survival in patients who failed other treatments.
Research score 95/100. Reference only, not a dose.

Mechanism
The dotatate portion binds somatostatin receptor 2, overexpressed on neuroendocrine tumor cells; once internalized, lutetium-177’s beta radiation (penetrating up to 2mm) damages tumor DNA and causes cell death, while accompanying gamma emission allows imaging.
