Mechanism
Selectively activates kidney V2 receptors, raising cAMP to insert aquaporin-2 channels into collecting-duct cells, concentrating urine; also releases von Willebrand factor and Factor VIII, aiding clotting.
Safety file
Main risk is hyponatremia (water intoxication), which can cause seizures or coma; also headache, nausea, flushing; avoid in heart failure, kidney impairment, or uncontrolled hypertension.
