MOTS-c
Mitochondrial-derived peptide MOTS-c, MOTS-c peptide, Mitochondrial ORF of the 12S rRNA type-c
A mitochondria-derived peptide that helps regulate metabolism, partly by moving to the nucleus to influence gene expression through AMPK. Preclinical work from 2020–2025 suggests possible benefit in gestational diabetes, ovarian cancer, hepatitis B, septic heart injury, and lung reperfusion injury, but it has not reached clinical use.

Mechanism
Activates AMPK signaling and, under metabolic stress, enters the nucleus to affect metabolic genes; improves insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake in muscle and boosts mitochondrial fatty-acid oxidation.
Safety file
Human safety is unestablished; theoretical risks include low blood sugar and mitochondrial overactivation, with injection-site reactions reported; banned by WADA at all times.
