Mechanism
Shares most of native GLP-1's sequence and activates its receptor via cAMP signaling, boosting glucose-dependent insulin release and curbing glucagon; a fatty-acid modification extends its half-life to about a week by binding albumin and resisting breakdown; centrally it lowers appetite and slows gastric emptying, with added cardiovascular and anti-inflammatory effects.
Safety file
GI side effects are common; gallbladder risk exists; rare pancreatitis or bowel obstruction; an emerging signal for a vision condition, NAION, has been noted.
