Mechanism
Acts independently of melanocortin receptors to block pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6) and NF-κB signaling in keratinocytes and immune cells, without triggering the pigmentation effects of its parent hormone α-MSH.
Safety file
Good safety profile in available studies; mild skin irritation topically and mild GI upset orally, but no long-term human data.
