Mechanism
A positively charged structure electrostatically attaches to and disrupts bacterial membranes via pore formation, causing content leakage and cell death; selective for bacterial over mammalian membranes due to charge/composition differences, making resistance less likely than with conventional antibiotics.
Safety file
Favorable safety profile for topical use, with low systemic absorption.
- Mild skin irritation
- Temporary redness
- Local burning sensation
- Contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals
